I’ve wondered for a long time what some of the samples in certain tracks are saying. Off the top of my head, some of them are:

      • Self Extortion/Deterioration (Thanks Solvynt!)
      • Galatea (Thanks Solvynt!)
      • reverend recital
      • Decillion catastrophes
      • musical (Thanks Shimotsukei!)
      • Twisted Freq – Innocence (Thanks Shimotsukei!)
      • Gestaltzerfall
      • War Monger
      • I Believe Nothing/Quicksand
      • Liberation (Thanks Solvynt!)
      • Al Megiddo (Thanks Shimotsukei!)
      • Hatral 2013
      • Hannya X

There are probably more, but this is quite a big list already, so I’ll leave it at this for now.

musical is Björk – In The Musicals
Innocence & Al Megiddo is Making of a Cyborg by Kenji Kawai from Ghost in the Shell Innocence
Hannya X is the heart sutra (buddhist sutra), not sure what exact version he’s sampling but they all sounds the same more or less.

I’ve been trying to find out about some of these others though for quite some time.

I know the samples in Substanced – Columbia is from the movie Blow, Nomic – Human Race samples are from Dead Poets Society, and Nomic – Rageface samples the song Quartz – Meltdown.

I don’t really care too much about where they’re from as what they’re saying, so anyone with strong Japanese speech-to-text might be able to help out with that. It’s great to know about the songs used in musical and Al Megiddo, though, and I had no idea it was the same one in Innocence! More to listen to!

On the topic of sources, City of solitude samples this: https://youtu.be/aC97k3CV3u4?t=1m16s and this https://youtu.be/bzgjls85etM?t=1m50s

Hannya X and its remixes also use another sample, something that seemed to translate along the lines of “I feel something…something…” but I can’t be sure.

ah i see, I’m really curious about the source of some of these. Some of the samples I’ve had a hard time understanding, but I can try my best when I get time.

Also I misspoke on the two Ghost in the Shell tracks. Al Megiddo is the first GITS movie’s 謡II-Ghost City and Innocence is the second movie’s The Ballade of Puppets: Flowers Grieve and Fall. Kenji Kawai’s live performances for those get more chilling as the years go on – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z64HCi2rQkE

Hey Sherkel, funny you post this… I was very recently thinking of making a similar topic… but asking for the sources instead.

Anyway, I tried back in 2011 to figure out the samples of some BTW tracks and this is what I came up with…

DJ Rx – Hellfire (Betwixt & Between remix)

(It all began with the bizarre dream I had that day.)

              __________

              Betwixt & Between – Liberation

              (Unnecessary killing.)

(Such things as what’s commonly called as a suicide terrorism are a last resort they use only when they can’t even find a thread of hope in their future.)

(Therefore, it’s necessary that we promote their voluntary independence.)

([By] Giving them freedom under the name of liberation.)

              __________

Betwixt & Between – Self Extortion
*I really want the source to this.*

              (What has changed?)

(You’re the only one who is concerned [about it])

(The people around you will gradually forget about you)

(You’d better get used to that body quick)

(That way everything will just flow away silently in time…)

              ______________

GULD Vs Betwixt & Between – HATRAL (unreleased version)

“How long do you think I’ve waited for this time(/moment)? …(It’s?) from (my?) Papa and Mama… and me…”
              /
“How long do you think I’ve waited for this time(/moment)? …Papa and Mama… It’s from me…”

*??? very fragmentary. really need more context for this.

              __________

              HASE – Galatea
(source: “MPD Psycho – Sound Story” drama CD)
Somebody uploaded it to Youtube last year
The part that was sampled can be heard starting at around 32:30

(I wonder where I will be once everything is over. I wish the world would dissolve in the rain.)

(And then I will, at a place that cannot be connected with either the ocean or the shore, be alone and sink into depression; my fingers, hair, and the front of my chest – the soft parts of the outside of my skin – I will feed them to the fish. The light shines, and the water in which my soul swims begins to part. Somebody approaches closer to me…)

[At this point the girl seems to be talking to herself in the audio…]

              “Who are you?”

              “I love you.”

“You love everything about me? I don’t like you”

“I hate everything about this world”

“Because I realize things will not accept me. I hate [them], I hate [them]”

              “I’ll kill you”

“[I] want to die, what about you?* It would be great if every living thing besides me became miserable.”
*I’m not sure how that could be written, so that is a guess on my part.

              ____________

My Japanese is not that great… so please correct where ever needed.

              Thank you.

You’ve left us speechless with that research, Solvynt. I’ve been trying not to look at this for too long until I’m really in the mood for those tracks again, but couldn’t help taking a peek. Thanks for shining some new light on these classics! I swear, some day I’ll be able I’ll hear the original version of Hatral (and Galatea), somehow…

Thanks for these 😀 Sherkel somebody uploaded Galatea recently. Or is a different version?

And anyone knows where the samples of invasion are from?

                    Sherkel

One of the really old posts on here (around 2008 I think) mentioned an “original version” of Galatea. I’ve listened to the released version many, many times, hence my strong interest in it. It’s such a unique and impassioned tune already that I’d jump at the chance to hear any alternate take on it.

And the English samples for Invasion are from Young Frankenstein. 😉 I’m not sure about the Japanese ones. It might be worth adding that the sample in Sentimental Pain’s breakdown is from The Bride of Frankenstein!

I didn’t know about Galatea original version.
                        Thanks for the answer 😉
