Back by popular demand (?) here’s something I’ve been meaning to post up for a while – a few more of my favourite ambient\/intelligent drum and bass tunes from back in the day. Don’t worry, I won’t start flooding TYFTH<\/em> with non-freeform tracks, but click on this post and there should be as many classics as I can link to without the site imploding. I nearly killed WordPress yesterday when I tried to embed too many videos, so let’s see how it goes this time…<\/p>\n

First up is PFM’s absolutely beautiful Danny’s Song<\/em>, a very relaxing track from 1996 that builds and builds towards the end – 6.07 still gives me the shivers, amazing stuff. I was well into the melodic melancholy side of things back then too, so look inside for a few more along the same lines.<\/p>\n

If you’re interested in hearing more of this kind of sound, a quick search for PFM, LTJ Bukem (try Music<\/a> <\/em>and Horizons<\/em><\/a>, especially) or Seba will give you some absolutely incredible stuff to listen to – here I’ll try to show off a few less easy to find classics, too.<\/p>\n

This one was released way back in 1995, which does make me feel a bit old – Tranquil <\/em>features some brilliant drum programming, and the kind of unique atmosphere that I couldn’t find anywhere else but in early-to-mid 90s jungle.<\/p>\n

Next we have another 14 year-old tune, Find Me <\/em>by Skanna. I used to (and still do) love that breakdown at 2.52, another perfect vocal sample in here too.<\/p>\n

I can’t resist one more PFM tune – For All of Us<\/em>, one of my favourite intelligent amen tracks.<\/p>\n

Peshay was especially know back then for his incredible Piano Tune<\/em>, but this was another favourite of mine, his remix of Ingrid Schroeder’s Paint You Blue<\/em>. One of the few vocal tunes I was into back then, this also has one of the best basslines in ambient dnb, I reckon.<\/p>\n

Here’s a classic amen roller from Shogun – anyone who downloaded that 1996 Bukem set I posted a long time back will recognise this one.<\/p>\n

Remember DJ Crystl? I think I posted Meditation<\/a> <\/em>a long time ago, but Mind Games <\/em>came a few years later, and was a very big tune.<\/p>\n

Another year or two after Mind Games<\/em>, Planetary Funk Alert <\/em>is one of Seba’s most famous tunes, and has possibly the best breakdown I’ve ever heard (4.19 onwards).<\/p>\n
