{"id":3986,"date":"2020-03-12T18:27:33","date_gmt":"2020-03-12T09:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thankyouforthehorse.com\/?p=3986"},"modified":"2020-03-12T18:27:33","modified_gmt":"2020-03-12T09:27:33","slug":"betwixt-between-vs-pain-on-creation-phaedras-hypnodisc-shimotsukei-mashup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thankyouforthehorse.net\/?p=3986","title":{"rendered":"Betwixt &#038; Between vs Pain On Creation &#8211; Phaedra&#8217;s Hypnodisc (Shimotsukei Mashup)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/751409989&amp;color=%232f3842&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;show_teaser=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Anyone following Shimotsukei&#8217;s SoundCloud will have noticed a recent burst of incredible mashups, mostly featuring Betwixt &amp; Between &#8211; but for everyone else, it&#8217;s about time I pointed out a couple of favourites.<\/p>\n<p>So far, of the uploaded versions, I&#8217;m probably the biggest fan of <em>Phaedra&#8217;s Hypnodisc<\/em>, a lovely, aggressive mashup that somehow balances the odd atmospheres of both tracks to come up with something new. Both have detuned sounds all over the place that make &#8216;normal&#8217; mixing difficult enough, but this mashup impresses as it keeps it all together. The extra weight at the lower ends also benefits both, making them a lot more playable in more modern sets. A really incredible effort and the best (online) example so far of what Shimotsukei&#8217;s been working on.<\/p>\n<p>Check it out at Shimotsukei&#8217;s SoundCloud along with the ambitous <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/shimotsukei\/betwixt-between-tindaros-invasion-shimotsukei-mashup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Tindaros Invasion<\/em><\/a>, another highlight. <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/shimotsukei\/betwixt-between-vs-lia-you-are-surging-shimotsukei-mashup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>You Are Surging<\/em><\/a>, meanwhile, is a quality mashup but still not enough to make me listen to Betwixt&#8217;s remix of <em>You Are<\/em>, something I&#8217;ve never been able to play all the way through thanks to some truly painful vocals.<\/p>\n<p>Now&#8217;s probably also a good time to mention Shimo&#8217;s superb <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/shimotsukei\/aryx-alek-szahala-megabyrgium-shimotsukei-mashup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Megabyrgium<\/em><\/a>, a mashup that deserved its own post a couple of years ago and still holds up brilliantly.
