Sorry to say I didn’t have time to go to Tano*C yesterday afternoon, but as I was free in the evening I decided to see Yoji play for the first time at UNIT in Daikanyama. I’d noticed that Kangu was going, but wasn’t really expecting many other people I knew…it was a nice surprise then to see a huge group of NRGetic Romancer guys and girls there too, including Guld. He said the same as me, he didn’t think anyone else would be there (but being a family man these days he had to bail out before Yoji’s 3am set). Zio was there too, the first time we’ve managed to meet up for quite a while.
Anyway, as I was expecting, a lot of the music wasn’t really my thing – just incredibly, incredibly slow (Zio kept telling me ‘the bpm isn’t going to get any faster tonight, you know’)…the basement floor had some slightly faster tunes (played by DJ Torikai, Mad Child, Overflow and Rinrin), but as Guld said, the speakers were a disaster – tiny and struggling with the bass. On the main floor I was only there for Yoji, as Remo-con has been pretty disappointing every time I’ve seen him, and most of the NRG crew seemed to be thinking the same.
Everyone was hoping for some older tunes, but Yoji stuck pretty much to his current style, starting off again with his anthem Airport. The rest of the set was mostly similar catchy/simple melodies with a slow heavy kick, but most of the crowd loved it, and UNIT was absolutely packed. His stage presence was as good as people say, but I wasn’t brave enough to go too far into the crowd (I was in about the same spot as Soham in his video above). I had to leave before the end of his set, but it was definitely worth taking the chance to see Yoji at long last. Next week is the Trance Enough vs Hell’s Gate event, wonder if I’ll have the energy for that too..
It’s too bad the event really wasn’t your kind of thing, but if you say it was worth it, then that’s cool.
Sucks you were unable to attend 11th Strike. I went there with a friend, and it was an amazing experience. Betwixt rocked so hard, playing up tracks like Eternalcanon, from the abyss and Zusammengehörigkeit… My body’s finally not hurting anymore from dancing like crazy!
Alabaster was putting up a good show too, but had a nasty technical failure at the very beginning of his set which semi-spoiled the opening he’d planned. He was going for a “mystic” theme with the set, and wore a monk cape.
By the way, do you have any idea when the next Romancer will be?
Sounds like you had a good time! I saw Alabaster’s tracklist, it looked really good, and someone mentioned that Betwixt played Eternal Cannon as the second track in his set 🙂 Have to try to get to the next one..
I was talking to Guld this morning, and it looks like there’ll be a Romancer in October after all! We’re not 100% sure of the date yet, but it’s usually the third weekend of the month.
