  1. I listen to hardtechno quite often and like it a lot. This is something along those lines. Techno is montone and is suppose to be. But I think this song is a little bit too repetetive even so. To me it sounds like the song is about to stop every other second. I got scared out of my chair a couple of times by that shooting noise though haha.

Anyway, I know Betwixt & Between has produced a lot of different styles of music and close to every song I’ve heard by him has been mint. But I haven’t heard any hardtechno tracks and if this is one of the first from him I say keep up the work cus I definitely see how the wicked melodies of the BTW freeform tracks can lift hardtechno to a different level.

Now I’ve been refering to this as hardtechno in the entire post and maybe this is something different but that is the closest referens point I know and I hope that someone will enlighten me if I should label it something else or rather not label it at all.

  2. re. Nisse, Btw has done some rough Hardcore tunes before, such as PHASE 6 and, well, the tracks he did for Pure Existence , even if those might even be of a diff. kind of Hardcore.

As for this track, and regardless of genres, it’s flat out boring. I even listened to it twice to see (hear) if I was missing smth, but I… can’t…
Isn’t this track just him experimenting? As I’m typing this, I’m listening to it for a third time and I still can’t look at this track as anything but an experiment.
Even if the goal is *just* power, I still think there are far more brutal tracks out there – Anmitzcuaca being the most brutal I ever heard, now that we’re on it.

    Seriously, I expected more. 😐

I respect Betwixt & Between immensely, so maybe the problem is me and I simply fail at seeing this track’s beauty. I would really like to see what other people think of it, though. Plasmadancer, you seem to have loved it?

Loved it? No, I wouldn’t go that far..! I did think it would be fun to dance to though, and maybe using half of it in a mix of this type would work…the fact that he’s put it up for download suggests it’s more of an experiment than anything else, mind.

All this subgenre stuff is ridiculous, isn’t it? I always guessed that anything around this bpm would be hardcore of some kind, but hard techno probably explains it as good as anything else…

Feels good to know more people found this quite boring. 🙂

The other day I heard a track under his Poly Calamity alias, Unam Sanctam and I realy like the rougher, quite dark take on freeform that I think is represented there. 12 Little Fragments of Silence is another example of what I mean. I would realy like to hear more of that kind of sound, by any producer.

My referense point for hard techno is the stuff that Svetec, Alex TB, Jason Little produces, just to name a few. A good example of this can be heard in dj sets by Eto & Gab aka Motormorfoses. They are pioneering the Brazilian techno scene right now and I love their sound. They are also producing. They sound much like this:

If anyone’s interested in hearing more this is their website: http://www.motormorfoses.com/
On the front page you can find recordings of two sets from May this year. And if you want to hear even more but don’t know where to look for it, you can check out their individual top 10’s featuring many of the top producers in the genre.

  5. Wey… I misused the word ‘love’, sorry ^^’
But as you said, I can see the track working on the dancefloor, in between those melody-heavy tunes, or smth. Home-listening, though, I cannot. D:

re. Nisse, the thing with Hydra, Unam Sanctam and 12 little Fragments of Silence is that they all have really high BPMs – at least, higher than the norm – and still sound amazingly well. Those kind of melodies really help creating the sense of speed/energy the track gives, also. It’s climax music and they are literally my coffee.

also, thanks for those links, I’ll definitely check them later. :3

Thanks a lot for the links! That youtube clip is awesome, and I’ll be downloading some mixes from their site soon 🙂

I was going to say that the tunes you mention are really hard to mix into anything else, but then remembered DJ WILD PARTY’s set at the last Romancer…bear with me, I’ll make a new post for the video.
