  1. All the best for you Jon, and everyone suffering from the effects of the quake and the tsunami. Can’t really come up with enough words. Horrible, horrible situation.

  2. Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate the messages.

Aside from some breathtakingly ignorant comments from the owner of ReBuild, there’s been nothing but concern from everyone in the scene…Tokyo is almost back to normal, but the situation is beyond words in other areas.

Things are getting worse if anything in Fukushima, but at least they’re managing to evacuate a lot of people today. Glad to hear that your flight didn’t go ahead!

  3. Well, let’s just say that it takes a certain kind of person to make jokes about what’s happening at the moment…definitely won’t be having anything to do with the label in the future.

Anyway, Tokyo is still ok, but we’re supposed to be having 3-hour blackouts to save electricity (maybe starting tomorrow in Mejiro)…I’ll be sure to check emails and stuff in between, though.

  4. My guess is that he probabaly wasn’t aware of the situation’s severity, because if not, he just took the term asshole to a whole new level. And I can’t see someone doing that purposely and still show his face.

  5. Alright, this confirms that me either won’t be supporting the label anymore.
Somehow I’ve managed to deal with issue that my friend still haven’t got his ultimate worlwide freeform album.
Even though the owner of ReBuild has said to him four times that “I will mail your cd on the next week, sorry for the delay”

    What a jerk…

  6. Oh sorry, Latest news:
Just heard from my friend that he got his cd last week.

But anyway, almost four months delay..

  7. I’m not usually one for the internet drama thing, so it’s probably best to leave it at that. More important things to think about at the moment, after all.

Oh, yesterday Guld gave me some really good news – Hase and his family are all fine! Hase moved back to Sendai a couple of years ago, so Guld made a big effort to make sure that he’s ok.

  8. Good to hear Jon. I’ve been following the situation through papers and internet, totally awful I’d say.

I understood that Japan is still expecting more earthquakes. If I was a believer I’d pray for you, but I’m not, so I’m trying to send nice thoughts. 🙂

    All the best!

  9. Ollie? I hate the guy – I’ve met him IRL quite a few times, he’s an arrogant cock… Simples.

I know it may seem like im being ignorant by not posting here, but i was on the case as soon as i’d heard. Emailed plasma to make sure everything is ok 🙂

  10. Just out of curiosity – Is the non-supporting of ReBuild the official stance from Hybridize/Finrg? I’m sure Ville would agree thats fucking BAD TASTE…

  11. Hm, I already donated some money for japan. The news about the catastrophes hit me hard, since I’m like a german with an otaku soul.
I just hope that nothing else happens there and that everyone will recover fast from what happened. May all the dead people rest in peace and may all the mentally/physically injured recovery fast.

Regarding the ReBuild issue… I will never ever buy anything again from that label and recommend my buddies to do the same. ReBuild shall be an afflicted word from now on…

  12. Ahah I’m loving how everyone is boycotting ReBuild now. intanat is srs bznss. dont mess wit intanat

re. plasma, great news about Hase! Seriously, when I first heard about what happened, I never imagined Japan was/would be suffering so much. It’s now that I see the images of the destruction that I get a glimpse of the real situation – looks as if the country was at war.
All I can do, like Alchemist said, is show that someone on the otherside of the world is there wishing all the best and all the strength to everyone.

  13. Alchemiist
Tokyo’s really dodged the bullet when it comes to earthquakes, we’ve had a couple of bigger aftershocks this week, but nothing too bad at all.

Anyway, as I’m not a believer either, nice thoughts are at least as well-received as prayers!

    Chip
Maybe I should have started the post with something like ‘The views expressed in this post are not those of FINRG or its sublabel’. Don’t think I’ve quite got the influence at FINRG for that kind of thing!

Anyway, Chip was indeed on the case as soon as it happened, as were a lot of people from around the scene…thanks again guys 🙂

Great to hear that you’ve donated to help, Gaia. To counter the link that BerN has already posted, here’s a pretty amazing before/after showing some of the work that people are already doing:

    http://p.twipple.jp/WECbs

  14. Even if FINRG haven’t jumped on the boycott bandwagon, i’ll bet his Japanese contacts aint too happy with him…

Crazy to think that this was all a natural occurance… :/

  15. That is a sensationalist article that was over a day old by the time you linked to it. The Fukushima reactor has a completely different design from Chernobyl, and even if the worst were to happen, it is almost impossible that anyone as far away as Tokyo would suffer any health risks. If you look at the article closely you’ll see that there’s a British nuclear expert saying the Chernobyl comparison is wrong.

Overall the international media coverage of the Fukushima accident has been horrible, they’re overplaying it and causing widespread panic. Everyone I know that’s gone home has done so because their parents couldn’t calm down while being fed with increasingly fearmongering headlines.

As for myself, I got back to Japan after spending two nights in a hotel in Finland. We’re doing fine here in Chiba, except for the daily earthquakes, public transport for the most part being shut down, and fuel shortage…

  16. Well, I had heard that whereas in Chernobyl the reactors were functioning at the time all happened, the ones at Fukushima weren’t, and that was the reason the incident wouldn’t compare with Chernobyl. At any rate, it’s still good to hear that from you, but as sensationalist as the article may be, I reckon that at least the death toll was accurate.

  17. I didn’t post anything earlier, sorry for that. And I really can’t do anything but agree how terrible the situation in Japan is. My condolences to the Japanese people. Good to hear Hase (and Guld too) is okay, hope the rest of the “J-core scene” are aswell.

About the ReBuild thing, well, I’m not so much into “internet drama” either but uh, what can I say – that’s just wrong. At least I didn’t buy the second compilation…

I have to agree with eirik, the media really takes great efforts to make some really, like you said, fearmongering headlines. That’s disgusting. And when that is combined with the stupidity of (some) people, the mess is ready. Even here in Finland, people have went to pharmacy to buy iodine pills…

And yes, Chernobyl was RBMK reactor, while Fukushima is BWR, thus it can’t “blow up” the way it did in Chernobyl.
However, the media has already brainwashed the Average Person™ think he/she is in great danger due to some nuclear fallout, even at the other side of the world.

  18. Thank goodness that the sensationalist line from abroad hasn’t been widely reported here (aside from among ex-pats/their families, it seems), as the panic-buying/shortages have been bad enough anyway. This combination of irresponsible reporting and governments ready to score a few points with their voters (eg. France) must make it close to impossible for families outside Japan to work out what’s going on.

More importantly, the headlines making people buy iodine tablets in places like Korea, USA and Finland (!) are taking attention away from the catastrophe further north, where help is absolutely essential at the moment.

  19. I’m not sure if laughing concerning the catasthrope in Japan is approvable right now, but I can’t help smiling about the iodine pill rush in Finland, like Jiipez said. That’s just wrong. Even a child knows that there is no chance that the fallout would reach Finland.

I’ll try to donate at least something myself, my girlfriend has done it already.

May the big spirit be on you all!
