For the past week or so I’ve been back at the intelligent drum and bass, but also some classic jungle tracks from the early-mid 90s. It’s been a long while since the last drum and bass post, so here are a few of the heavier tunes that I’ve been giving a good old rinse.
The first is hardly an undiscovered gem, but Origin Unknown’s version of Johnny ’94 is easily my favourite. A fantastically dark track this, really doing justice to the original voice samples.
Next is another classic – Remarc’s R.I.P. The chopped amens and stretched ‘Juunnnglliist’ vocal get me every time, I love this one.
If you’re talking ragga jungle, then pretty much any tune from the prolific Just Jungle will do the trick. Here I’ve gone for Come Fi Nice It Up, a really relentless amen track that sadly I’ve never heard in a club.
Love Me Now definitely sounds like a track from that hazy 1994 hardcore/jungle era, and happens to be one of my all-time favourites. Bizarrely embedding has been disabled, but here it is.
Finally here’s another Origin Unknown anthem to finish – possibly the best version of Dred Bass.
Classic tunes! Not heard that Just Jungle tune for a while, so that was a nice bonus for opening the read more tab.
If anyone was going to enjoy these, I thought you might! I’ve also been looking for that Just Jungle track with the ‘Hip hip, hooray!’ sample, but can’t remember the title…
By the way, downloaded your Urban Takedown set the other day, looking forward to giving it a listen 🙂
