Destroyed High has turned into a monthly event these days, so last Saturday I took the chance to check out September’s edition. Kanon was the guest DJ this time, and the rest of the lineup was very good, including the set of the night from MIYUJOU.
I took a few videos this time – to spare the TYFTH front page from yet more embedded stuff, you’ll need to click below to take a look.
I arrived just in time for 殺女/Ayame’s set (kanji readers should appreciate the choice of characters there), but this time she was playing semi-dark psy instead of her usual hardcore/speedcore. Her set was incredible last time I saw her, so it was a shame that she was playing so early this time. It was a nice warmup, anyway – very nicely mixed with a good selection.
AT played next, and maybe with Ayame’s set in mind he started with Qygen’s L.E.D. Galaxy! It seemed to take a while for the crowd to wake up, but once AT got into his stride there was some proper Hybridize business going on – I noticed Global Killer, Worth Fighting For, Lightshaft and a Sam One tune…which I can’t remember the title of right now. He finished things off (of course) with Operation Stardust.
Even with KA-NA mixing the tunes I really can’t stand hardstyle, so I escaped to the SUNRISE floor to listen to some trance for a while. Luckily Soham is made of sterner stuff, and thanks to him we’ve still got a video from her set. I don’t know what happened towards the end, but when I came back Dairin was up in the booth playing Voices of Babylon and Lush (!).
Kanon’s set was as good as ever, and probably did the best job of getting the crowd moving. I took a decent length video but actually the second half was more my thing, with some very oldskool tunes in amongst the anthems.
I haven’t see MIYUJOU play before, but her dark psy set was just fantastic, a properly twisted atmosphere almost comparable to some of Cogi’s best. You’d never guess it from her opening tune though – a vocal psy tune that seems to be doing the rounds of the scene at the moment (a remix of one of Lady Gaga’s finest, Google tells me). Dairin, AT and Kohaku put on a performance though, so I couldn’t resist taking a video (with obligatory awful camerawork, sorry about that). Later on I was too busy ‘dancing’ to record the nastier tracks…
Dairin finished the event, but I was in no fit state to film/dance/anything else by then. Instead, here’s another video from Soham, taken near the start of the set.
There’ll be another Destroyed High next month, maybe even some sort of collaboration with Lunatic Sabbath!
Someone tell me the name of that track Ayame played, plz.
But, yes, another great event as always!
