Just the one track to add tonight, partly because I’m now more involved in scouting out tunes for Hybridize/FINRG, and a couple that I had in mind for TYFTH could end up getting a release there instead. There’ll definitely be more to come here though, and tonight is Zio’s Glacial, which was completed early last year.

It’s a great tune with quite a Finnish/Alek feel to it – it also has a very mixable midsection, always good to have that kind of tune to hand when playing a set. This time the file is a wav, as Zio really tried hard to get the bass/kick sounding right before I used it in NRG Monogatari 2, and keeping the quality as high as possible makes a big difference with this one.

Stay tuned for the next batch – a few are ready and waiting, just have to decide where they’ll end up…

Jiipez and I were talking about this in the TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION comments, and I’ve finally looked into the full release of Speed Ball Z, the latest compilation from Hardcore Tano*C. I’d actually heard two of the tracks before, and although as usual most aren’t quite my kind of thing, for freeform fans I can absolutely recommend Unam sanctum, an excellent tune from POLY CALAMITY.

Jiipez has already posted up the preview link, but here it is once more.

One more post to come later tonight, bear with me…

Nomic – muuttolintu(pre alpha beta delta giga 02) by nomic

I expect almost everyone’s heard this one already, but here’s the preview of Nomic’s fabulous Muuttolintu. Apparently translating as ‘migratory bird’ (thanks Substanced), Nomic has again come up with two amazing breakdowns, and a great track overall. If one day I can create melodies like this, I’ll be a happy man… Anyway, this is the pre-alpha-beta-delta-giga version, so there might be more to come in the finished tune. For now, enjoy.

Talking of uploads, my NRGetic Romancer x Hybridize mix is also on the FINRG SoundCloud. My SC is (of course) a free version, and downloads now stop at 100 – the mix had actually gone past 200 before the limit came in, but it’s available again for anyone who missed it.

Some more info on Betwixt & Between’s upcoming compilation album, Pure Existence. It’ll be sold on the 30th December at Comic Market (at the ALiCE’S EMOTiON booth), costing 1500yen. For anyone who can’t make it (but is in Japan, obviously) it’ll also be on sale at Tokyo Hardcore Construction next month.

I’ve had a preview of the album, and it’s sounding amazing, some really really good tunes in there that could fit into a lot of different sets. The tracklist is:

exist01: teranoid v.s. Betwixt & Between – CG25

exist02: Lunch – Heavy Industry

exist03: POLY CALAMITY – opkiklo

exist04: Alabaster – Black Border

exist05: Inugami, Lunch, Betwixt & Between – reverend recital

exist06: Lunch – musical

exsit07: RoughSketch – hug me

exist08: POLY CALAMITY – Decillion catastrophes

exist09: Zutsuu – Nightmarish Delusions

exist0A: Rising Sun Nova – External Limit

exist0B: Outro

You’ll notice some familiar names in there, with standout tracks from Lunch, Roughsketch and Finnish producer Zutsuu, among others. Betwixt has also released an excellent crossfaded preview of the album, which can be found on the new TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION SoundCloud.

There’ll be a proper post on what happened at NRGetic Romancer before too long, but a few videos were taken of the regulars doing their thing, and I couldn’t pass these up in the meantime.

First we have Detch doing some glowswording with the light sabre-things that usually come out near the end of each Romancer. He’d never used them before, but somebody passed both to him and he improvised this (!) while Android Lime’s remix of Hannya X plays in the background. His glowsticking seems to have gone up a few more levels on the amazing scale too, but no videos of that yet.

Carbon Based & Proteus – Heavy Fusion by FINRG Recordings

Another day, another batch of storming tunes added to the FINRG Soundcloud – this time we have Hybridize releases from Nomic, Sam One, Epyx & Cyrez and Substanced, as well as some of the tracks from the FINRG Hakkapeliitta compilation. Heading this post is the classic Heavy Fusion, a very underrated tune, I think (edit: seems like it’s not available just yet, hopefully it’ll be up soon). Once again, check out the SoundCloud for any tunes I might not have mentioned.

Thanks to DJ Aemi I’m playing at another event next month – Muon (Dream Sound) in Roppongi. Muon began as a mainstream event, playing house, trance etc, but next year will see ‘version 2’ kick in with harder genres all the way. There will be a ‘sub-floor’ with the old style event happening there, which might be a good way to get a few more folk in (even if they don’t know what on earth’s going on when they get to the main floor).

I’m proud to be on the lineup for this first event, and looking forward to it a lot – Aemi and the other organisers have said that high bpms aren’t a problem, so I’ll be going all-out with 170bpm+ Japanese/Finnish style. After J-Mx’s Itachi the other day, it’s great to see that DJ 490 will be playing too, very much looking forward to his set. It should be a really interesting mix of genres, here’s the info from the flyer:

Alek Száhala – Sunray (Unfinished Forever Edit) by FINRG Recordings

This has made my day/month/year – a massive update from FINRG, but also from Alek Szahala himself! I think we all have to thank TYFTH’s BerN for leaving a comment on Alek’s guestbook, as he’s gone ahead and added everything requested. Biggest news must surely be the free release of Sunray, an amazing, amazing tune – DJs, make sure to play this one ASAP, it will probably be included in pretty much every mix for the next few months. Other tracks include his live edit of Supriya, Last of the Mohicans and his Live at Sade 2003, while over at the FINRG SoundCloud there are also releases from Sam One and Substanced.

Guld has announced the timetable for Friday’s event, and here it is:

23.00 – PlasmaDancer

00.10 – COGI

01.30 – Full Circle DJs

02.50 – Betwixt & Between

03.40 – Guld

I’m trying to do a million things at once this week, and don’t really know what sort of thing I’ll be playing – hopefully it’ll fall into place on the night….

One more thing – if you check the Schedule section there’s a new gig up (on the 22nd of next month). More info coming soon!

I’m late posting this one up, but it deserves some promotion – TYFTH is the perfect place to give J-Mx’s newest mix a shout. Made up of mostly Japanese tracks, it’s a very melodic set with some great selections. It’s obvious that J-Mx spent a lot of time on finding good connections between tracks, which is how it should be for a mixtape/studio mix, and he’s definitely made strides since his first uploaded set earlier this year.

Selection-wise, there’s an inspired opening from Nachi Sakaue’s Eternal Dream into Mood Music, as well as a couple of my favourite Alabaster tracks in a really excellent first half. After Betwixt & Between’s Nemesis, the set morphs into the kind of ‘happy Japanese freeform’ that I’m not so keen on, but that’s just me – the mixing is still very good, and fans of the Tano*C sound etc should really enjoy it. Overall, it’s a very nice set indeed, and a good showcase for a slightly different sort of Japanese freeform.

  1. Nachi Sakaue – Eternal Dream
  2. Devastate – Mood Music (Oli G remix)
  3. Alabaster – Barbotage
  4. Betwixt & Between – Discord
  5. Alabaster – Zealot
  6. Aryx – Chaldea
  7. Sam one – Mechanical (Alchemiist remix)
  8. Betwixt & Between – Nemesis
  9. SUGE – simulaton
  10. DJ 490 – Cloudy
  11. DJ Noriken – Sunset Emotion
  12. Ark-Z – Dear Mr GR
  13. S.C.M.E – log
  14. Lv4 – XQCL
