Epyx – The Eidolon of the Blind (Dj Set) by Epyx

You might remember Epyx’s excellent industrial/NRG set from last year? Well here’s more of the same, another very well chosen selection of tunes that goes all the way up from industrial to gabber. Once again I was really impressed – the first half of this set is in particular is about as well-constructed as I’ve heard for a long time. The second half doesn’t quite match up, but the choice of tunes is great, with some recent and not-so-recent dark freeform working well together.

Check it out at Epyx’s SoundCloud, along with a remix of Rammstein’s Ich Will.

With the scene running a bit dry again so far this week, I’m really happy to see a long-awaited return to freeform from Cyanide Project. Back in 2007-2008 he came up with some excellent tunes, a couple of which I still regularly play at home, and since then I’ve been trying to find out if he’s still producing.

These three tracks show that he is, and his heavy-on-the-filters, slightly old-skool FINRG style hasn’t changed too much – a good thing, I reckon. All three tunes are nice, but my favourite might be Sacrifice, which has something of the much-missed Pain on Creation about it.

Check out all three via Cyanide Project’s MySpace.

BEEZEE – BEHEMOTH by BEEZEE

Been a bit slow on the updates this week, but thanks to BEEZEE from the UK we now have a brand new set to check out. He got in touch recently, thinking that it might appeal to the TYFTH crew – it’s a really nice mix of old and new, and the first half especially has some genuine classics in there. The Kevin Energy remix of Anger Ball doesn’t really match up to the original in my opinion, but it definitely works well here to link between the older tracks and Horzi/Substanced’s sound. The mixing is very tight too, so this is another recommended mix.

1. NOMIC – FALLING STAR

2. GRIMSOUL – MOMENT OF WONDER

3. SUBSTANCED AND GRIMSOUL – HARDER THAN YOU THINK

4. ALEK SZAHALA – CHIMAERA

5. RX AND PAIN ON CREATION – SUPER SONIC

6. LOST SOUL – BEYOND SALVATION

7. CARBON BASED – ANGER BALL (KEVIN ENERGY RMX)

8. HORZI – INFERNAL PSYCHO

9. SUBSTANCED – ESCALATE

10. SUBSTANCED – EL ORFANATO

Thanks again to BEEZEE – check out his SoundCloud page here.

Been a long time since the last Top Ten, but there was talk of me playing another gig this month (it’s been delayed, but hopefully it’ll still happen at a later date) so that stopped me posting until now. Some very melancholy/emotional tunes in here this time, seems like this year I’ve really settled on the style I like best…

In other news I’ve got a couple of tunes on the go – one remix and one original. Really hoping I’ll have at least one of them done in a week or two, but we’ll see…

  1. Betwixt & Between – Point of No Return
  2. Alek Szahala – Voices of Babylon
  3. Steve Morley – Sacred City (Nomic remix)
  4. Alabaster – Revenant
  5. Apofish – Echiuridi
  6. Nomic – Desolated Dreams
  7. Betwixt & Between – From the Abyss
  8. Re-form – My Sickness
  9. Guld – Final Revenger (Another Future)
  10. RR – ThermalForce – Rockin’ (Phosphorescence mix)

Today’s random video at the top of the post is great, I reckon – genius vocalist/musician Bobby McFerrin conducting an audience through the pentatonic scale. With a million-and-something views you’ve probably seen it before, but I could watch this one all day… If you’re lucky enough not to have come across his shows on YouTube, definitely take some time to check them out – a few minutes ago I was watching this improvised duet with the ever-amazing Aziza Mustafa Zadeh.

The Sauna Boys – In The Heat [Unreleased] by FINRG Recordings

A bit late with this news, but congratulations to everyone connected with FINRG for the amazing download figures we’ve had since the label went free last year. 50,000 downloads is fantastic, and means FINRG must be reaching all corners of the hardcore scene these days. Hopefully we can take things to the next level once the new website is fully up and running, but in the meantime the FINRG crew have made Sauna Boys’ In the Heat available as a ‘thank you’. It took a while to hunt this one down again, which caused the delay in the release, but it’s still a really nice track. Grab it as usual from the FINRG SoundCloud.
