Events

Not long until the next Tokyo Hardcore Construction, and although it seems like Kanon won’t be there, Lala is returning, which makes a big difference to the middle of the night. The following day’s a big national holiday (even for me, unusually), so should be a decent crowd.

While we’re on a THC tip, here’s Visual Contact, a promo gabber mix from Lunch himself. It’s been up for a while, but I don’t think I’ve posted it before – sorry I don’t have a tracklist, but it’s very similar to his Hardcore Construction sets, with the banging gabber broken up by a couple of nice vocal breakdowns. A quick heads up on this snappily-titled event, coming up in a few weeks – the main reason being Zio will make a rare DJ appearance. He’s on the main ‘trance’ floor though, so it’ll probably be tech dance rather than anything harder. In a re-run of the Trance Halloween event, John Robinson will be the guest, and a separate ‘hard floor’ will be there for the two or three people who want to hear faster tunes. Two or three might not be an exaggeration, as during A2C’s (peak time) set at Trance Halloween I was the only person on the floor – what a weird experience that was.

Here’s the lineup so far, with more still to be announced, I think.

Something a bit different here – Betwixt & Between has been booked to play at a Cyber Goth event on the 23rd December. Other artists include Takuya Angel and SiSeN (who mostly plays dark psy/industrial etc). Not sure if the rest of the music would be my thing, but coincidentally I was just checking the Takuya Angel site earlier today – it’s incredibly hard to find anything connected to Cyber style in Tokyo now that Cyberdog and Fotus have both disappeared.

Last Sunday afternoon was Operation Karma, but I wasn’t able to get there in the end. A big shame after I missed the last one (I was in Taiwan), I really want this event to keep going as long as possible.

Anyway, here are a few videos of what we all missed – first is KA-NA playing her usual Alek Szahala (plus a couple of others) set. In this clip she’s playing Vengeance, followed by the underrated Firecloud, I haven’t heard that for a long time.

The flyer design for NRGetic Romancer is all finished (a bit small here, sorry), and confirms that it’ll be another DJ set from Full Circle DJs, rather than Live PA. The last one was a big hit, so definitely looking forward to that.

As it’s the Hannya release party, I’ll probably be using one of the new remixes in my set – should fit in with the style I’ll be going for this time.

This time Jiipez has beaten me to it, but for anyone who missed his comment, here’s the video round-up from September’s Hardcore Tano*C. I wasn’t able to get there, but my man at the scene (aka Eirik) tells me that Alabaster had some technical problems once again – his gear froze up on him at the start of his Operation Karma set, too. In the video he’s in the middle of Ziggurat’s breakdown – definitely one of his best tunes recently. Man of many talents Betwixt & Between is playing the all-time classic Eternal Cannon, and sporting a visor/helmet thing that he made himself a while ago.

The flyer is still under construction, but the lineups have been announced for next month’s Romancer. It’s another free party, this time celebrating Guld’s Pieces of Hannya release, featuring remixes of Hannya8000 (the new version is known as Hannya X) by a number of artists from outside Japan, and Guld himself. I’ve heard a few of them already, and it’s going to be a great collection of tunes.

The Adrenaline crew are once again taking over the 4th floor of Studio Cube, and so I’ll be opening with a slightly slower set this time. I’ve already got a few ideas, so hopefully I can come up with something interesting/good at waking up the crowd in the early stages.

Next month’s date for NRGetic Romancer is all decided, and will again be held on a Friday. There was talk of me playing at a different event this month too (it was originally going to be tomorrow), but it’s been postponed until next month, or more probably January. More details as and when…

That’s all the info I have for now, so let’s randomly listen to one of Grimsoul’s classic oldies. Jään Hautaamat is another great track, it’s amazing how his standard was so high even back then.
