  1. So far only listened to the first CD. I’d like to know what you guys thought about it. I honestly liked it. Will definitely listen to it more times. However, is this what you consider “modern” DnB, PlasmaDancer?

  2. I’m a bit torn on that first CD…on one hand I really like the attempt to bring back some old skool happy hardcore/breakbeat style to the tunes (that remix of ‘When We Find Akanoyo’, for example, nearly sounds like a bootleg of ‘Far Out’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0NGQ_bTg18). The problem is that I absolutely hate the ‘comedy’ basslines and other stuff that seems to be in a lot of dancefloor DnB these days (which some of these tunes would qualify as, I guess), so when the two are combined I find myself half enjoying it, half wincing…

From what I understand this kind of DnB/hardcore fusion is pretty unique to guys like Entity and CLSM at the moment?

  3. Its good to see someone writing about us, thank you! Its actually not ‘modern’ DnB, its called Breakbeat Hardcore in the UK. I agree that it sounds alot like DnB but I wouldn’t say the Cube::Hard mix is a DnB mix though.

The mix needs to grow on you. I had the same feeling as you had after a first listen. Try to give it a few more changes, and as posted elsewhere; go to bed, put on your headphones and play the Cube::Hard mix. It may sound weird to you, but it worked here. There are so many special things which you don’t hear when you hear it for the first time.. 😉

Actually, I do think this applies for the whole album!

Thanks a lot for the comment! I wouldn’t call it a DnB mix either, it was just that the more ‘DnB-style’ tracks were the ones I didn’t like. The Breakbeat Hardcore side of things definitely brought back some good memories – I’ll be giving the whole thing another try today 🙂

Thanks to you and the COH guys for the whole project, by the way, and for giving FINRG some exposure 😉

Ah, the ‘comedy’ basslines I was thinking of are those wobbly things you hear in dubstep and some DnB (including some of the tracks in the Cube::Hard mix), and maybe leads like in ‘Fasten Your Seatbelts’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UINhE8L1yXg / most of the sounds in the G Dub remix of ‘Ra’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byvycdDRQ84

Anyway, I might be able to recommend some of the old 90s tunes, but for the more recent stuff it would definitely be worth checking out Dogs on Acid: http://www.dogsonacid.com/
Informative/hilarious forums, and a really useful place for producers, too 🙂

Just remembered a pretty recent (?) track from Jonny L that might be one you’d like : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl3UIvvOCi4&feature=related
