  1. Some of my favourite J-Core tunes are Touhou. Would be awesome if we saw the game over here to be honest.

Did you know its the longest running Fan Based Game to date?

I believe Betwixt & Between – Dust to Dust is a Touhou bootleg. Along with pretty much anything from Alice Emotions.

  2. Touhou is nice, but the entire thing became exaggerated. There’re about 75% Touhou doujin releases at every comic market. I’d prefer to see some more original works instead, because Touhou turned out to annoy me. Always the same melodies. Enough is enough for me. I’m more than saturated already. :\
There could be some more RPG doujins instead, such as Zodiac Brave, Legend of Square meets Hardcore, Atomic Ray, … Good old times… Why won’t japanese do more of them? These tunes sound a way better than this repetitive Touhou shit.
Oh well, B&B is at least able to give these annoying tunes a better shell.

Anyway, this is a very good mix. I just had enough Touhou already. 😉

  3. The only Touhou I cared was Imperishable Night and I didn’t even care much about it. Could barely beat it on Normal. And now I’m getting nostalgic, fuck.

Though, Touhou is more saturated than my grandma. It’s everywhere you look, ffs.

  4. This is what’s great about Touhou:

    (also the music)
    (and arguably, the chars/lolis)

This is how dedicated the fanbase is:

This is how saturated Touhou brand is already:

Now you know as much as everyone else what Touhou is about. :3

  5. Gaia, I could not agree with you more. In fact that is why I stopped listening to the majority of J-core because Touhou just seems to be everywhere in that community and it gets QUITE frustrating not seeing original works put out as often. But I do admire what original stuff BTW has done, especially the more psy/goa sounding tracks he’s put out in the past.

  6. Gaia/BerN/Qygen
Yes indeed, it’s definite overkill at this stage…though not having much to do with J-Core, I can enjoy the occasional set like this one. Betwixt does a good job of disguising the tunes though, you really wouldn’t know that a few of the melodies aren’t his own work.

Bullet-hell shooters are just about the only games I play these days, so from that angle I can’t say the Touhou loli influence is too welcome – when even Cave games are populated by ’18 year old’ witches and Shibuya bimbos riding insects, you can’t help feeling it might be time to switch genres…

  7. Haha Plasma, didn’t know you were into STGs. Shibuya girls riding insects sounds like it’d be right up my alley, I might have to reconsider that game. Can you 1cc Black Label?!w

Picked up Deathsmiles a little while, but the cover looks suspicious enough that I’ve hidden it in the closet for now.

Also dittoing what’s been said about Touhou’s influence. Soulless arrange albums for quick money basically killed off the doujin scene, but at least Betwixt’s managed to produce some fantastic tunes using ZUN’s melodies.

Btw, I’ve been in Chiba for the last few weeks and was hoping to see you around, but it seems like it’s been quiet with events. Haven’t bothered checking mixi for a while though, so maybe I’ve missed out on some great parties…

  8. Sorry eirik, I missed this comment earlier – wonder if you’re still in Chiba? There’s not been much happening with events lately apart from Destroyed High, but after the lacklustre December event I didn’t bother this month.

Haha, yup…modern games usually make me very sad, but I love the purity of shooters, old or new.

I haven’t even played Black Label, and haven’t spent enough time with the original or Futari to get close to a 1cc…the main character’s voice is enough to make me want to stab myself with a joystick though, so that doesn’t help.

I 1cced Death Smiles in the arcade, but as maybe the easiest Cave game ever that’s not really much of an achievement – away from Cave, been playing the excellent Darius Burst lately 🙂
