Guld has announced the timetable for Friday’s event, and here it is:

23.00 – PlasmaDancer

00.10 – COGI

01.30 – Full Circle DJs

02.50 – Betwixt & Between

03.40 – Guld

I’m trying to do a million things at once this week, and don’t really know what sort of thing I’ll be playing – hopefully it’ll fall into place on the night….

One more thing – if you check the Schedule section there’s a new gig up (on the 22nd of next month). More info coming soon!

I’m late posting this one up, but it deserves some promotion – TYFTH is the perfect place to give J-Mx’s newest mix a shout. Made up of mostly Japanese tracks, it’s a very melodic set with some great selections. It’s obvious that J-Mx spent a lot of time on finding good connections between tracks, which is how it should be for a mixtape/studio mix, and he’s definitely made strides since his first uploaded set earlier this year.

Selection-wise, there’s an inspired opening from Nachi Sakaue’s Eternal Dream into Mood Music, as well as a couple of my favourite Alabaster tracks in a really excellent first half. After Betwixt & Between’s Nemesis, the set morphs into the kind of ‘happy Japanese freeform’ that I’m not so keen on, but that’s just me – the mixing is still very good, and fans of the Tano*C sound etc should really enjoy it. Overall, it’s a very nice set indeed, and a good showcase for a slightly different sort of Japanese freeform.

It’s shaping up to be a very busy week, but there’s just time to post up this new preview clip from Betwixt & Between’s PURE EXISTENCE compilation. As he mentioned before, this is Industrial Hardcore, Betwixt-style – the clip actually reminds me of a slowed down version of some of his Berserk & Haste tracks. Looking forward to what comes next, but in the meantime check the clip here.

Carbon Based & RX & Swoosh – Future vs Past by DJ Swoosh

Here’s a preview of the upcoming Hybridize collab track from Carbon Based, Rx and Swoosh. Future vs Past has a very house-style opening, before a breakdown that has the crew bringing out all the tricks – some great melodies and growly synths, with a bit of acid in there too. A lower bpm this time, but it’s nice to hear the guys taking on a different style of tune – the release isn’t far away, either.

Not long until the next Tokyo Hardcore Construction, and although it seems like Kanon won’t be there, Lala is returning, which makes a big difference to the middle of the night. The following day’s a big national holiday (even for me, unusually), so should be a decent crowd.

While we’re on a THC tip, here’s Visual Contact, a promo gabber mix from Lunch himself. It’s been up for a while, but I don’t think I’ve posted it before – sorry I don’t have a tracklist, but it’s very similar to his Hardcore Construction sets, with the banging gabber broken up by a couple of nice vocal breakdowns. Coming soon is a big release from NRGetic Romancer – Pieces of Hannya brings together interpretations of Hannya8000 from five Hard NRG/Schranz artists. This new version is known as Hannya X, and Guld’s ‘original’ is sounding really vicious, even unmastered, and all the others I’ve heard so far have managed to bring their their own style to the tune.

Not long to wait now – it’s looking good for a release before next week’s NRGetic Romancer.

edit: The release is now set for 17th December, the day before NRGetic Romancer.

Two more TYFTH releases  – this time we have high bpm freeform/hardcore, courtesy of Substanced and Betwixt & Between.

Colombia was included in last year’s NRG Monogatari 2 mix, but for those who don’t know it’s freeform with a strong hard trance feel. Substanced wants me to point out that this is a very old track, but personally I think the ‘rougher’ sound works really well this time, the Finnish style grinding synths sound that bit wilder and the track definitely has a lot of energy. It’s also a very handy tune for connecting dark and melodic freeform, so I was a bit surprised that it was never picked up for release. Hopefully this will get it some much-deserved play time.

Next is Eternally, which might be new to most people – it was actually the first Betwixt & Between track I heard, years and years ago. The style might be closer to hardcore than freeform, but it’s got elements of both, with the huge kick giving it a lot of power. It’s a long way from ‘modern Betwixt’, but listening to it again recently I remembered what a good track it is – it reminds me of some of the hardcore tunes that Nomic and Alek have made in the past, with plenty of acid and some great vocal samples. Look out especially for the bludgeoning melody/sequence at 3.30 –  it made a pretty big impression when I heard it in one of Betwixt’s NRGetic Romancer sets. Something to note is that although I’ll always be aiming to make 320kbps tracks available, this one is 192. It’s quite a rare tune, so this is the best we have for now…absolutely fine for mixing though.

Big thanks once again to Substanced and Betwixt & Between. There might not be two tunes coming every week, but more are already on standby – I’ll be doing my best with some of the suggestions, too!

A quick heads up on this snappily-titled event, coming up in a few weeks – the main reason being Zio will make a rare DJ appearance. He’s on the main ‘trance’ floor though, so it’ll probably be tech dance rather than anything harder. In a re-run of the Trance Halloween event, John Robinson will be the guest, and a separate ‘hard floor’ will be there for the two or three people who want to hear faster tunes. Two or three might not be an exaggeration, as during A2C’s (peak time) set at Trance Halloween I was the only person on the floor – what a weird experience that was.

Here’s the lineup so far, with more still to be announced, I think.
