Seems like way too long since I heard an Rx set, but here’s a nice video from his early 2010 gig in Poland. Look at the lighting in that place…!

It’s a while since we’ve had a Decion set on TYFTH, but Turbulence is right up there with his best. As seems to be the case with a lot of them, I’m keener on the tracks at the beginning of the set than the end, but that could just be unfamiliarity with the tunes coming through. The mixing is absolutely top quality, and the only disappointment is the lack of Alchemiist tracks this time – they always seem to give the mixes just that little bit of variety. Putting that to one side, this is another must-listen set for NRG fans, and easily saw me through a whole day of train journeys today.
- Project Mayhem vs Justin Bourne – Dance Flaw (Justin Bourne & Dynamic Intervention remix)
- Firefox – Synesthesia
- Random But Raw – Muck Spreading
- Aftermath – Underworld (Justin Bourne & Dynamic Intervention remix)
- Phatt Beats & Sonny Summers – Wu Tang
- Matt R – Super Cops
- Daley – Caveman (Chris F remix)
- Chris F – No Respect
- NooNoo – Razored Flesh
- NARC – Haters
- Random But Raw – Brutal World
- Twisted Psycho – Come Alive
I’m really happy to give Matt England’s new blog a shout here – Freeform Sound will be covering all sorts of interesting stuff, with a focus on production tips, interviews and track showcases. It’s hard to be anything but impressed with Matt’s sound these days, and this new project definitely deserves some support.

Rob.O.T.T – Sound & Fury by Thank You For The Horse
I’ve been meaning to do something a bit more productive with the ‘Tracks’ section for a while now, and thanks to the artists involved things are finally looking good for this brand new version. Instead of that messy collection of mediafire links, from now on the tracks will be up on their very own SoundCloud, which will make promoting/sharing tunes a lot easier. Hopefully this will make it a genuinely useful way of getting some of the newer guys some exposure – there will be links to it up on Facebook, among other things.
To kick off the revamp we have four fantastic tracks from Aquanox and Rob.O.T.T – how none of these have been signed up before I’m not too sure, but I’m incredibly grateful to both guys for making them public here. Aquanox’s Killer Loop will be familiar to a lot of people, a top quality tune with real pace to it and some brilliant acid lines. I was this close to playing at last month’s Romancer…
The other three tunes are from Hybridize’s Rob.O.T.T, but instead of his usual hard trance/hard dance, this time he’s taking on freeform! All three tunes nicely mix the UK and Finnish styles, and as you’d expect there are some great melodies, complete with plenty of freeform style filtering. My personal favourite is probably Sound & Fury, but don’t miss the haunted housecore of Creation or the awesome melodies of New Direction.
Thanks a million to both Aquanox and Rob once again. By the way, I’ve started ‘following’ a few fellow TYFTHers on SoundCloud, feel free to do the same if I haven’t found you yet!
Tyranoid/Strongstream – Burn 1 [selected works 2008-2010] by FINRG Recordings
A very welcome new set from Tyranoid/Strongstream here, this time with the focus on their slower industrial/acid tunes. As you’d expect, the mix progression is spot on with the lovely Unity remix starting things off, and nasty acid everywhere you look in the second half (including a nice remix of Segmentation Fault). Give yourself time to get into the bpm, then, and this is a really quality set.
By the way, there should be a bit of site news coming later today or (more likely) tomorrow
The very last batch of releases from freeform stalwart Electronica Exposed are almost here, and the Six Feet Underground compilation is looking especially nice. As well as a lot of unreleased Shanty material and a new Cyrez edit of Twisted Faith, look out for one of Dye In Sound’s latest tracks, the filtertastic Extended. I played it a few weeks ago in my short ustream set – it’s definitely one for Twisted Freq fans to check out. Take a look at the complete tracklist and order the CD here.
Thanks to the time difference I wasn’t able to catch much of the Halloween Weekender, but thankfully J-Mx’s super-melodic J-Core set was recorded. Once again, he’s done a fine job of showing off the other side of Japanese freeform, and somehow managed to get tunes like Aryx’s Aurora into the mix, too. The final few tunes (t+Pazolite’s excellent Bonds of NRG excepted) are a bit too heavy on the slightly weird synths/over enthusiastic melodies for my taste, but otherwise this is very welcome break from the darker stuff I always seem to listen to these days. Hopefully there’ll be a few more Weekender sets to come…

The two-CD Ultimate Worldwide Freeform is finally ready, this time covering just about every angle of the freeform scene. Standout tracks for me are obviously Aurora, Inexistenz and Alek Szahala’s Ascend to the Stars, while Sam One and Grimsoul have both come up with quality hard-trance influenced tunes. The NEC CD isn’t one that I’ll be using in my sets, but for those into their UK freeform it looks like a very good lineup.
Thanks and respect go to Thumpa for taking a look at the Japanese scene this time around – the album is set for release on the 21st of this month, but preorders are already possible here and here.

I’m a week or so late posting this one, but for anyone who missed it this is a very nice sequence from Proteus and Galrav’s b2b set, at the Sade/Fury collab event on the 15th. Headlining was Mr Phil York, aka Bootek, but this set seems to have been the one closest to TYFTH style. Check out the ever-awesome Fist of the North Star – currently getting some heavy play from Guld, too.
