Last weekend was Dreams Into Harder, and despite the really low turnout/bit of admin chaos it was all great fun to take part in. In the end it turned out to be a good choice to go with breakbeat hardcore, what with everyone else playing high bpm trancey happy hardcore.
Standout set was DJ 490’s very technical happy hardcore, with NEMO’s Scouse House a close second. DJ Minagi’s Anison (anime soundtrack!) and hard trance was a thing to behold – I didn’t have a clue what was going on half the time, but he mixed it all amazingly well. My set was so much fun to play that I actually re-recorded it at home last night – click below for the tracklist/mp3 and some photos from the event.

The plan for my set this time was to mix breakbeat hardcore with hardcore (rather than mixing it with drum and bass, which seems to be the usual thing), with an early-to-mid 90s feel. Somehow it all went very well, and I managed to stay clear of any wobbly modern dnb while sneaking in a bit of freeform for the Romancer crew. Thanks to the weird timing of the event there was no sign of AEMI at the end of my 40 minutes, so I played a few extra vocal tracks and kept going for a full hour. Luckily the crowd seemed to like them, and I even got to do the ‘hand clap’ thing during Next Stay.

The re-recording from yesterday is 40 minutes long, finishing on Fuck Me Egyptian Style (as I’d been planing on the day). There’s a bit of a change in style between Walking on the Moon and Cypherpunk – I noticed some Romancer regulars there and decided to go down that avenue for a track or two. I won’t put this one up on SoundCloud for now, as it’s so different to my usual stuff, but anyone interested can download a 320kbps mp3 here.
Thanks again to AEMI an everyone who came along. Finally, here are a few more photos, courtesy of VJ Hosopyi:

Epic post Plasma, will be downloading that Breakbeat set! I’m quite into Breaks myself at the moment, more like Krafty Kuts, Noisia and Specimen A, but its all good. Still loving the multi-faceted world of freeform
Excellent, excellent set! How I wish I could go to events like these. 😐
And I had been looking for that Walking on the Moon track ever since I heard it in some DJ Yousuke set, so thanks for the tracklist.
Anyway, it was a really fun set, great job. :3

Just downloaded your new breaks set, I’ll be giving that a listen on the train tomorrow!
Hats off to Ponder and Darwin, they’ve absolutely nailed the ‘oldskool sound with modern production’ in a few of these tracks…let me know what you think of the set 🙂

Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I know the Yousuke set you mean, that was where I first heard it too! It has actually been released for free since then, as have Voodoo Magic and FMES.
Yeah Pondz is good at that… So is Darwin, they’ve both been doing the old/newskool thing for a while. Especially Darwin ^^
