Betwixt & Between-SPIDER-96kbps by TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION

Betwixt & Between has been busy lately with three new tracks that really show off his versatility. First we have SPIDER, an excellent schranz/hardcore track that has a very strong Nomic feel to it, while SO SWEET BITTER DAYS goes into bouncy UK territory, with a lovely breakdown. Ultra World 6 is a fantastic rework of the DJ Eclipse classic, Ultra World 5, definitely doing the original justice and introducing all sorts of new elements. Check Betwixt’s SoundCloud to hear all three, and download low-quality previews.

Another mix to enjoy today, this time from fellow Horser and Freeformaniacs crew member BEEZEE. We’d been warned to expect some darker tunes, and our man definitely doesn’t disappoint, with the kind of consistently nasty/twisted atmosphere that would cause chaos on dancefloors here. After BEEZEE’s excellent past mixes it’s no surprise that the mixing is really top class (that Moonshine>Godd connection is very special), and it’s also interesting to see the tracklist similarities between this and Dyzphazia’s Munted set (previous post). Congratulations to Amini for having Eupraxia played in both!

Once again then, another must listen – download the whole set (with the one like Stray on mic duty) via the Freeform Forum thread.

1. Digital Anarchy vs Skampy + Mayhem – Illusions of Sound (Horzi +Meke remix)
2. Epyx + Cyrez – Moonshine
3. Marco V – Godd (Tyranoid + Strongstream bootleg)
4. Substanced – Freeform Mercury
5. Alek Szahala – Adagio for Strings
6. Endemic + Solution – Outbreak (rx remix)
7. Substanced – Lost Temple II
8. Epyx + Cyrez – Andromeda
9. Twisted Freq – Dirtier World
10. Amini – Eupraxia
11. Epyx + Cyrez – Kanashibari
12. Rank 1 – Airwave (Betwixt + Between bootleg)

Massive congratulations to Dyzphazia, Midas and the Munted crew for what looked like a really successful online event on Friday/Saturday. I managed to catch 30 minutes or so over breakfast, and it looked like there was a very decent crowd in the Krafty chatroom.

Dyzphazia’s set is now online for download, and it’s an essential listen if you didn’t catch it first time around. This time Chip has gone all out for variety, fitting in some brand new Finnish tracks, Betwixt, Alek and some classic oldies. As you’d expect, the mixing is rock-solid (with Lemonade Raygun>Rock n Load being my favourite, I think), and the plan of coming up with a ‘club-style’ set seems to have worked nicely, with the atmosphere often switching from nasty to trancy, and then back again.

  1. Rank 1 – L.E.D. Let There Be Light (CDR)
  2. DJ Fury – Lemonade Raygun (Main Floor Mix) (Stompin Choonz)
  3. Cyrez – Rock ‘n’ Load (CDR)
  4. Endemic Vs. Solution – Outbreak (DJ Rx Remix) (Nu Energy Collective)
  5. Between & Between – Tout Est Bien (Sein Zum Tode) (Hardcore Tano*C)
  6. Amini – Eupraxia (CDR)
  7. Aeternity – After Dark (CDR)
  8. Lost Soul – Warlock (Rebuild Records)
  9. Alek Szahala – Astraia (Rebuild Records)
  10. Cosmic Gate – Back to Earth (Alchemiist Bootleg) (CDR)
  11. Pain On Creation – Lush (Fatal Error Edit) (FiNRG)
  12. Betwixt & Between – Tankobu Hesotarou No Hourou (Hardcore Tano*C)
  13. Alek Szahala – Sunray (Unfinished Forever) (FiNRG)

The next installment of BLACK MARIA isn’t far away (9th October), so now might be a good chance to check out this promo video put together with footage from the last event. The concept (mixing gabber, psy and burlesque-style performances) is really nice and with the unique (for Shibuya) setting it’s slightly reminiscent of club/show fusion events like Tokyo Decadance, Rituals etc. I missed the first one in June, but I’ll definitely be heading along next month.

It’s been a while since we last heard from Tyranoid/Strongstream, but they’re back with this awesome music video to promote their new(ish) remix, Massive Line. Complete with footage of the guys playing at events, it’s really well put together and very atmospheric, especially with the trademark acid coming in towards the end. Congratulations to T&S on a very nice project!

Little bit late notice, but tonight I’ll be playing some tunes on ustream for the first time in a few weeks. First of all it’ll be my Sabbath set (plus one or two bonus promos), then 30 minutes or so of brand-new freeform.

Sometime this week I’ll have a go at recording the Sabbath set, so this’ll be a final run-through, while the freeform finale will almost entirely be promos/new releases that I haven’t played on ustream before (or indeed, anywhere else). I’ve got some very nice new material that wasn’t dark enough for Sabbath, so apart from the potential calamities of using tunes I’ve never played before, this could be worth a listen.

The Sabbath set will be more familar, but I think there are some interesting connections, at least. Hope to see a few people for a chat and some tunes from 23:30 tonight!

I expect there’ll be more details to come later, but for now here’s some early warning for a fantastic project from our man Chip and DJ Midas. As most of the UK crew will know, this month’s Munted event was cancelled (depressingly due to insufficient ticket sales) and what was looking like an excellent lineup will have to wait for another time.

Instead, Chip and Midas have managed to round up some of the original DJs and organise an online version of the event! Substanced is still on board, and the lineup so far is A.B, Douglas, Dyzphazia, Midas, Substanced, Nexus Six, Endemic and Nick 325. Not bad at all, and as things stand the event will run from 11pm to 7am UK time. There’ll be another reminder closer to the 30th, but keep the Krafty Radio homepage handy until then.
