HARD GEN III – RESURRECTION Promo mix by KohlSinistry

Kohl is back with an excellent new promo set of hard dance/NRG that features some absolutely blinding tunes. A few of the tracks are a little different to what we’re used to on TYFTH, leaning towards fairly gentle, melodic NRG, but things get nastier as the set progresses – the mixing is first class, and the atmosphere is really nicely developed throughout. If only the set could have been bumped up by 5 bpm or so, it might have made all the difference to an already nice mix. Instead, tunes like Falling Down sound quite slow, and this might end up being one to keep in reserve when you feel like a break from the higher bpms.

I’ll be out at Destroyed High next weekend, so the next ustream session will be coming up on Wednesday instead. This time it’ll be something of an NRGetic Romancer Special, as I’ll be starting off with my own set, then trying a mixed version of Betwixt & Between’s Live PA. I didn’t record my set (as there were too many promos for it to be posted online), so this’ll be a one-off chance to hear some brand new stuff!*

*Plus a couple of mixes that the regular ustream crew have heard a million times before.

Mixu’s been at it again, this time uploading Epilim’s classic Rapid Fire. This tune is probably familiar to a lot of people, and hasn’t it aged well? Those filtered synths sound really nasty – there’s definitely something to be said for the ‘rougher’ days of production.

Betwixt & Between – Surendrajit(2011 refix) by TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION

Thanks to Ritsuenyu for spotting this new version of Surendrajit, uploaded a few hours ago. The most obvious improvement is the extra bass and a heavier kick, but the cleaned up synths also make a very noticeable difference. An improved version of one of my very favourite Betwixt tracks, this is obviously right up there as one of the releases of the year so far, and is freely available from the TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION SoundCloud.

Pain on Creation & E-NRG – Storm (Substanced Remix) by FINRG Recordings

What a surprise this was – a new Substanced remix of the PoC classic, Storm. It’s probably fair to say that this version has lost the grittiness of the original, but there’s some typically Substanced-standard synth work to make up for it (especially in the second half), as well as more of that recently-perfected kick.

Guld has done an excellent job of sorting out a very busy timetable this time around, and somehow I’ve ended up with a 50 minute set to open the event. It looks like my original idea of running through the past 7 years’ worth of freeform might still be doable…let’s see how many I can fit in!

23:00 PlasmaDancer
23:50 COGI
00:30 Betwixt & Between
01:00 SATOSHI HONJO
01:50 Shriekerz
02:40 DJ MUNETICA
03:10 Full Circle DJs
03:40 Einhander
04:10 GULD

For one reason or another I couldn’t make it to last month’s Destroyed High, but AT’s set was easily the one I was most looking forward to. Luckily Soham was on the case once again, coming up with a lengthy video of AT playing The Tune. It sounds like a nice clean mix to follow up, but sadly the clip ends before I can work out what the track might be…
