I’m a bit behind with my mix-listening at the moment, but a few days ago I finally had the chance to check out J-Mx’s Munted! Monthly! set. This is a really nice mix, an interesting combination of Japanese tunes (leaning towards the J-Core side of things) with Substanced and UK tracks – the nicely consistent sound throughout shows that there’s some quality selection going on here. If you’re after an uplifting set with an edge, then this’ll do the job very nicely.

With my sporadic recent posting you might not have noticed, but I’ve just returned from a little town in Shizuoka called Shuzenji Onsen, where I spent a lovely few days sitting in hot springs, eating soba and wandering around Forest Moon of Endor-style scenery. Above is my hotel the town’s namesake temple, Shuzenji.

Tonight will be my first trip to Dark Dimension at Decadance Bar – no AT/Asahi this time, sadly, but a very nice looking lineup. With any luck I’ll have some video to upload tomorrow…

I unexpectedly made it down to Shinjuku for the second half of last weekend’s Sabbath, and while the crowd was very disappointing (access apparently being limited to the secret Decadance Bar staff entrance probably didn’t help) I was glad to catch a couple of great sets from Ac-key and Siki.

Obviously showing my ignorance in the video above though – I assumed at first that this was the Rx remix of Narcissistic Cannibal, while of course it’s the original. Rx’s version would have fitted in nicely too, as the rest of Ac-key’s set was another excellently mixed selection of drum and bass, dubstep and darker electro.

For the past week or so I’ve been back at the intelligent drum and bass, but also some classic jungle tracks from the early-mid 90s. It’s been a long while since the last drum and bass post, so here are a few of the heavier tunes that I’ve been giving a good old rinse.

The first is hardly an undiscovered gem, but Origin Unknown’s version of Johnny ’94 is easily my favourite. A fantastically dark track this, really doing justice to the original voice samples.

It seems to have been a long time since the last video from Harder.fi, so it’s nice to see some footage of the latest event (thanks to Syntse, as always). It looks like this was a great event for variety, with J7 and Cyrez from FINRG alongside all sorts of other genres – I couldn’t help smiling during the clip from Tornadoz & D-Shark’s set, they seem to be having an awesome time in the booth.

I’m always interested to see Xelfer playing, as his selection seems quite TYFTH-friendly. I’ve unearthed this 2008 set, but does anyone know if he has any recent mixes online?
