The latest installment of Hardcore Syndromeis on the way (already on sale at Comic Market, it’ll be available elsewhere from the 26th), and freeform fans will immediately notice the standout track – Betwixt & Between’s Tout est Bien (Sein zum Tode). I’d like to hear the full version of Teranoid’s Back on Fear, but the rest of the tunes (understandably) look like they’re aimed squarely at the J-Core crew, and probably won’t be finding their way into freeform setlists anytime soon.
Towards the end of last night’s ustream set I threw in some of the ‘psycore’ I’d been promising, and most of it came from the extremely talented Qygen. The name might be familiar to a few people from his hardcore/freeform tracks, but it’s his recent Goa-influenced tunes that really caught my attention.
With tracks like Vast and LED Galaxy, he has done a fantastic (and really confident) job of transplanting old Goa atmosphere and melodies into a hardcore bpm. I can’t wait to hear some more material, but for now you can find a decent selection on Qygen’s SoundCloud.
Kohl is back with an excellent new promo set of hard dance/NRG that features some absolutely blinding tunes. A few of the tracks are a little different to what we’re used to on TYFTH, leaning towards fairly gentle, melodic NRG, but things get nastier as the set progresses – the mixing is first class, and the atmosphere is really nicely developed throughout. If only the set could have been bumped up by 5 bpm or so, it might have made all the difference to an already nice mix. Instead, tunes like Falling Down sound quite slow, and this might end up being one to keep in reserve when you feel like a break from the higher bpms.

I’ll be out at Destroyed High next weekend, so the next ustream session will be coming up on Wednesday instead. This time it’ll be something of an NRGetic Romancer Special, as I’ll be starting off with my own set, then trying a mixed version of Betwixt & Between’s Live PA. I didn’t record my set (as there were too many promos for it to be posted online), so this’ll be a one-off chance to hear some brand new stuff!*
*Plus a couple of mixes that the regular ustream crew have heard a million times before.
Mixu’s been at it again, this time uploading Epilim’s classic Rapid Fire. This tune is probably familiar to a lot of people, and hasn’t it aged well? Those filtered synths sound really nasty – there’s definitely something to be said for the ‘rougher’ days of production.
Last night was a truly awesome NRGetic Romancer, and I haven’t got enough energy to post much today. There’ll be more coming tomorrow, but until then tunes like one are easing me back to the land of the living…
Thanks to Ritsuenyu for spotting this new version of Surendrajit, uploaded a few hours ago. The most obvious improvement is the extra bass and a heavier kick, but the cleaned up synths also make a very noticeable difference. An improved version of one of my very favourite Betwixt tracks, this is obviously right up there as one of the releases of the year so far, and is freely available from the TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION SoundCloud.
I’m a bit late posting this up, but Alabaster is playing a set on ustream right now. He’s already been at it for 30 minutes or so, but has said that he wants to play some freeform eventually, so this could keep going for a while yet. Some lovely mixing so far…
What a surprise this was – a new Substanced remix of the PoC classic, Storm. It’s probably fair to say that this version has lost the grittiness of the original, but there’s some typically Substanced-standard synth work to make up for it (especially in the second half), as well as more of that recently-perfected kick.
FINRG has been very busy with the new additions (including one of my current favourites, Liberator) but for obvious reasons Xochitlán is the one I’m highlighting this time around. Still as powerful as ever, with a real tear-jerker of an intro and a killer climax, it’s hard to believe Alek came up with this one in 2005…
