It’s a quiet week so far, but luckily the rest of the month is going to be pretty busy, event-wise. Here’s a quick look at the three I’ll probably be going along to.

First up (on the 10th) is Tokyo Hardcore Construction. The lineup is looking reasonable, and as this one is the night before a national holiday there might be some other ravers there, too.

There’s a Tokyo Decadance on Saturday the 12th, but intelligent dnb legend LTJ Bukem is playing a special long-set on the same evening. Modern dnb or not, I can’t really miss this one, so I’ll probably end up two-stepping it with the drunken expat crew at Daikanyama’s Unit.

Finally (on the 19th) we have Dairin and KA-NA’s new event, Destroyed High. It’s a nice first-event lineup, and Kanon will be playing again as a special guest.

Another new set from Decion – this time a short 40 minute-ish mix of hard NRG. Maybe not quite as ferocious as the last couple of sets, this one really gets going in the second half and is another excellent break if you’ve had enough of freeform (for some reason).

  1. Matt R – Code Red
  2. Defective Audio – Scream Like This
  3. Defective Audio & Karl Davis – After Party
  4. Michael Smith – Dance With The Devil
  5. Riggsy vs Chris Sharkey – The Blackening
  6. Michael Smith – Orgasm
  7. Dramatik – Angry Adelaide (Weazal remix)
  8. Crazy Chris – Too Fast

Kaiser Belial Mix by GULDJP

I’ve been looking forward to Guld’s new set for a while now, and in all honesty it’s one of the best mixes I’ve heard for a long time. Full-on NRG from start to finish (with a couple of freeform tracks for good measure), this is just the kind of dark, aggressive sound we don’t hear enough of these days. The selection is spot on, but Guld has also done a quality job with the mixing, with some very nicely thought-out connections here and there. There are one or two tracks that I’ve been planning to use in my next set too, but mine’ll be 170-175bpm, I think.

No tracklist at the moment, but this one easily gets a golden TYFTH seal of approval. Take a deep breath before downloading though, as the wav file weighs in at around 500mb..

Thanks to kuilin/eirik for adding it to the comments section, but here’s Guld’s tracklist for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet:

  1. Seileen – Lamento della Sirena (Guld remix)
  2. Beliar – Jigsaw (Alchemiist & Decion Fuckin’ Filth Mix)
  3. Betwixt & Between – Paradoxical Silence
  4. Beati Mortui – Let the Funeral Begin (Proteus remix)
  5. ADAM Lab 4 – Infernal Desire (Lab 4 Psycho Surgery remix)
  6. DJ Manik – Lucid (Guld remix)
  7. Alek Szahala – Sunray (Android Lime remix)
  8. Einhander – Fourbeast
  9. Epyx & Cyrez meets Heathen – All of Us
  10. Stereo Junks – Chemistry (Proteus remix)
  11. Hase – Bionac
  12. Guld – Hannya X
  13. RR-ThermalForce – Rockin’ (Phosphorescence mix)
  14. Boot

I had a great time playing older tunes and the Betwixt/Alabaster showcase last night – massive thanks to everyone who came along. Hopefully I’ll have time to do another one pretty soon, but in the meantime here’s the tracklist from the first set.

01. Pain on Creation – Adaption (pre-release version)
02. Carbon Based – Kraateri
03. DJ Rx – Frozen Flame
04. Carbon Based – Real Stuff
05. Nomic – Falling Star (original)
06. Dok & Ponder – Mental Ward (Carbon Based remix)
07. EFM-7 vs Twisted Freq – Lumalux 20
08. Level 13 – Die Like The Rest
09. Level 13 – Exaltation

12. Alek Szahala – Solar Hive
13. Carbon Based & Nemes – Heaven n Hell (Alek Szahala remix)
14. Proteus – Venla

Here’s another set, this time via Pearsall’s Sonicrampage blog. Mixed by Flip back in 2005, it’s a nice reminder of how things used to sound and features some excellent selections, including a couple of older Twisted Freq tracks. Listening in 2011 it seems like the set is a bit short on interesting transitions, but it’s definitely refreshing to hear tunes like Tlaloc and Underworld Species again.

01. Twisted Freq – Martyrdom (Volatile Digital Audio)
02. Carbon Based – Fatal Flashback (Electronic)
03. Pain On Creation – Adaptation (Finrg Digital)
04. AMS – God Of Hell Fire (Nu Energy)
05. Oli G & Dodgee – Heh (Nu Energy)
06. Invader & Oli G – Living Hell (Digital Beatz)
07. Alek Szahala – Tlaloc (Electronic)
08. Cynista vs Safe n’ Sound – Chemical Warfare (Nu Energy)
09. Carbon Based – Anger Ball (Nu Energy)
10. Kevin Energy – Crescendos Of Ecstasy (Nu Energy)
11. Twisted Freq – Burnin’ Up (Volatile Digital Audio)
12. Pain On Creation – Mortality (Electronic)
13. Carbon Based – Underworld Species (Electroplates)

Substanced – F For Freeform [Promo Mix 2011] by FINRG Recordings

Substanced has got his promo set in early this year, and reflecting the scene these days it has a very UK freeform feel about it. This one is obviously aiming for dancefloor pleasers rather than melancholy style, but listen out for a lovely section in the middle with Substanced’s Wonderland and Evolution back to back. If you’re into the lighter brand of freeform then the rest of the set will be a nice listen too, and the mixing is of course rock-solid.

City of Solitude (GULD Remix) / Betwixt & Between by GULDJP

The final installment of tonight’s SoundCloud frenzy is Guld’s ferocious remix of Betwixt & Between’s classic (and just released) City of Solitude. I remember playing this at the final Hell’s Gate (pitched up to about 173bpm), and the breakdown does as much damage as you’d expect. It’s been a fixture in Guld’s sets for the last couple of years too, so it’ll be interesting to see how much play it gets elsewhere.

Psylokk Vs Nova – Hypnotic Arrangments by Psylokk vs Nova

If you feel like a break from the typical freeform set, then Dyzphazia’s new project might be just the thing. Here going by the name Psylokk, this is a b2b (?) set with Nova that genre-wise is all over the place. Starting off with some melodic psytrance, it also crosses into hard house, pitched-down freeform and even breaks. The result is a really interesting set that obviously took a lot of planning and has some great track combinations. Freeform fans might find Hellfire a bit slow, but personally I reckon Polar Energy sounds fantastic. Anyway, a highly recommended change of pace, this one.

  1. DNA vs Gataplex – Music in my soul
  2. Gataplex vs Michele Adamson – Freedom
  3. Perplex vs DNA – Stop drop and Roll
  4. En-gen – Bankai (D.N.I Rmx)
  5. A-mush – Phanatic Area
  6. Neurodriver – Sidewinder (Original Mix)
  7. Miraculix – My Machines
  8. Epyx and Cyrez vs Substanced – Expedition Bloodbath
  9. DJ RX – Hellfire
  10. Re:creation – Eclipse
  11. Unconscious Mind(S) – Damnation (Original Mix)
  12. Epyx and Cyrez – Polar Energy

Technikal & Kim Ayres – Bad Girl (Substanced Bootleg Remix) by Substanced

Thanks to Substanced for letting me know about his newest bootleg remix – now online for free. I’m not familiar with the original tune, but this a very nice track with a rougher feel than some of the recent Hybridize/FINRG releases. Some nice acid and a couple of pacy melodies make this one a must-download.
